For the North Carolina Renaissance Faire, I created the character of Mistress Margaret Bobbin: Seamstress, Tailor, and Fashion Consultant. She's a bit over the top when it comes to clothing - you know, *everyone* is going to be wearing bumrolls and crazy-patch stomachers this year. She is joined at Scarborough by Laird Avery MacDuff, Lady Tamara MacDuff, and Sachico Osamsa (who is almost hidden behind them). SF 2003 |

My favorite picture from Scarborough 2003. I had just graduated from US Army Basic Training two weeks prior to traveling to Scarborough for Memorial Day Weekend. On Mermrial Day Monday, I was chosen out of all the current and former service members to carry Old Glory in our parade, leading all of the in-sooth and in-faith service members. Never mind that it was wet and rainy, and that I was drenched and covered in mud - I carried our flag with pride. |
All of the veterans and current service members were added to the parade on Memorial Day, along with a massed formation of the Kings Guard, Scottish Regiment, and Musketeers. All told, we were almost longer than the rest of the parade. It was quite a sight to behold. Here I am as Mistrress Margaret Bobbin leading the troops to the parade line-up area. Countess Margaret Pole is the lady in pink behind me, Leiutenant Sir Colin Napier is the Scotsman marching the troops (right side of picture), and Lord Geroge Bolyen can be seen at the far back (left side) of the picture. After the parade, the troops gathered in the picnic area to remember our fallen comrades. Before that, the flagbearers decided to 'take the hill'. I led the charge, hoopskirt, mud and all! SF 2003 |
